You can securely connect Tyms to AI assistants like Claude, ChatGPT, and Perplexity using the Tyms MCP Server.
Once connected, you can use your AI tools to retrieve questions about your business, generate financial reports depending on the permissions you grant, and even perform bookkeeping tasks directly in your Tyms account using natural language.
Before You Begin
You'll need:
An active Tyms account.
An account with your preferred AI tool (Claude, ChatGPT, Perplexity).
Your Tyms MCP Server URL.
Your Client ID.
Choose Your Access Level
Tyms provides two levels of access.
Read-Only Access
Use this if you only want to use your AI tools to:
Answer questions about your business.
Generate financial reports.
Provide business insights.
Summarize your accounting data.
With Read-Only access, you cannot create, edit, or delete records in Tyms.

Read & Write Access
Choose this option if you'd like your AI assistant to perform bookkeeping tasks on your behalf.
Examples include:
Creating invoices.
Recording expenses.
Creating journal entries.
Recording income.
Performing other supported accounting actions.

Client ID
When connecting Tyms to your preferred AI tool, use the Client ID that matches the platform you're connecting.

Tip: Make sure you copy the Client ID that corresponds to the AI tool you're connecting. Using the correct Client ID ensures a successful connection.
Connect Claude
Open Claude.
Go to Settings → Customize
Select Connectors.
Click Add.
Select Add Custom Connector.
Enter Tyms as the connector name.
Paste your preferred MCP Server URL.
Paste your Client ID.
Click Add.
Find Tyms in your connector list and click Connect.
Sign in to your Tyms account.
Select the business you'd like to connect with.
Click Continue to authorize the connection.
Your Claude account is now connected to Tyms.
Connect ChatGPT
Custom MCP connectors in ChatGPT require Developer Mode, which is only available on Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise, and Edu plans. Free accounts cannot connect to Tyms this way.
If you're on an individual Plus or Pro plan:
Open ChatGPT and go to Settings.
Go to Connectors → Advanced.
Turn on Developer Mode.
Return to Connectors and add a new custom connector.
Enter Tyms as the connector name.
Paste your preferred MCP Server URL.
Enter your Client ID (and Client Secret, if applicable).
Complete the authorization process by signing in to your Tyms account.
Start a new chat, open the tools/sources menu in the message box, and enable Tyms for that conversation.
If you're on a Business, Enterprise, or Edu workspace:
A workspace admin must first go to Workspace Settings → Permissions & Roles → Connected Data and enable Developer Mode / Create custom MCP connectors for the organization.
Once enabled, individual members can add and connect Tyms using the steps above.
Once connected, ChatGPT can securely interact with your Tyms account based on the access level you selected.
Note: MCP support may vary depending on your ChatGPT plan and feature availability. If the connector doesn't appear after authorizing, try refreshing the connectors list or re-adding it.
Connect Perplexity
Connect Perplexity
Custom MCP connectors in Perplexity require a Pro, Max, or Enterprise plan. Free accounts cannot use MCP connectors.
Open Perplexity and go to Account Settings.
Click Connectors.
Click + Custom connector.
Select Remote.
Enter Tyms as the connector name.
Paste your preferred MCP Server URL.
Open Advanced settings and enter your Client ID (and Client Secret, if applicable).
Check the acknowledgement box confirming you understand the risks of custom connectors.
Click Add.
Find the Tyms connector card in the Connectors screen and click it to start authentication.
Sign in to your Tyms account and authorize the connection.
Your Perplexity account is now connected to Tyms.
Note: On Perplexity Enterprise, an admin may need to enable custom connectors for the organization before individual members can add Tyms.
What Can You Do?
After connecting Tyms, you can interact with your accounting data using everyday language.
For example:
"Show me this month's Profit and Loss statement."
"Generate my Balance Sheet."
"List all unpaid invoices."
"Create an invoice for John Doe."
"Record an office expense of ₦50,000."
"Create a journal entry for this transaction."
The actions available depend on whether you connected using Read-Only or Read & Write access.
Security
You remain in control of your data.
Read-Only access allows your AI assistant to retrieve information only.
Read & Write access allows your AI assistant to perform supported bookkeeping actions in your Tyms account.
You can revoke or update access at any time from your Tyms account.
